KCSIE Safeguarding and Child Protection Policy 2026: key updates
Following the publication of KCSIE 2026, we have updated our Model Safeguarding and Child Protection Policy to reflect the final revisions. The new and amended content is highlighted in green to help you quickly identify the changes that may require action in your setting. We have also produced a clarification slide for use alongside our annual safeguarding update training.
Both resources are available on our safeguarding web pages. We encourage DSLs to review the highlighted changes carefully and consider whether any local procedures, policies, training materials or governance updates are required.
Actions DSLs may need to consider:
- Review the revised model policy and update your setting's safeguarding policy where necessary.
- Check that staff annual safeguarding updates include the new KCSIE 2026 requirements.
- Update DSL, staff and governor training materials as appropriate.
- Review safeguarding procedures relating to any newly referenced risks or responsibilities.
- Ensure filtering, monitoring and online safety arrangements remain aligned with current expectations.
- Update local safeguarding documentation, referral pathways and risk assessment templates if affected.
- Brief governors, trustees or proprietors on any changes relevant to their safeguarding oversight responsibilities.
- Consider whether any additional communication with staff, pupils, parents or carers is required.
