Police offer Parents FREE online sessions on “Keeping your child safe online from grooming and exploitation”

Parents and carers who would like to understand more about how grooming and exploitation can happen online and what they can do to keep their child safe, can join free online information sessions in September and October, led by Avon and Somerset Police.

“Keeping your child safe online” sessions will take place on Tuesday 29 September from 7.00 pm to 8.30 pm and Tuesday 6 October, from 1.00 pm to 2.30 pm., with Child Exploitation Prevent and Coordinator Officer Andri Nicolaou.

Andri will share information, advice and tips to help parents and carers create a safer digital space for children and young people. The session will explore the different forms, exploitation can take, the warning signs to look out for, the practical steps they can take to help protect young people online and how to reach out for help.

Grooming happens when a perpetrator develops a relationship - often using online platforms, such as social media, messaging. and live streaming - with a child, to enable their abuse and exploitation, both online and offline.

When sexual exploitation happens online, perpetrators may persuade or force young people to send or post sexually explicit images of themselves, take part in sexual activities via a webcam or smartphone, or have sexual conversations by text or online.

Child exploitation is often subtle, gradual, and may hide in plain sight. It can happen online, in public spaces or through friendships - and it can affect any child.

To sign up for one of the sessions (which people can join without turning their cameras on or speaking) visit:
