Following the film's successful live premiere at Ashton Gate Stadium in March, this online screening aims to broaden its reach across the region and beyond. The event will be joined by guest speakers:
Andrea Rea, Oasis Academy John Williams
Karen MacDonald, Crimestoppers in the West Country
Mike Vass, Strategic Knife Crime Lead – Avon and Somerset Police
Together, they will explore the project’s goals, present the film, and discuss future steps to expand its educational impact.
Developed in direct response to the tragic losses of two young people, Max and Mason, to knife violence in South Bristol, the “Safer Together” project brings together students from Oasis Academy John Williams, E-Act Merchants' Academy, and Bridge Learning Campus.
Through a creative and therapeutic approach, young people involved in the project were supported to process their grief, fear and frustration—transforming their lived experiences into a powerful message of hope, advocacy and change. The resulting film amplifies their voices and offers a compelling educational tool for use in schools and community settings.
The film and accompanying resources will soon be made freely available to professionals working with young people, offering a valuable early intervention tool to help prevent knife crime and support meaningful conversations around safety and community resilience.
The project has been made possible with the support of Oasis Hub – South Bristol, The Nisbet Trust, John James Bristol Foundation, Foundation for Children, Quartet Community Foundation, Fearless, Jack’s Lab, Ashton Gate Stadium, and Event Logic Productions.
