The Bristol Safeguarding in Education Team is proud to spotlight two impactful events aimed at enhancing support for children affected by parental imprisonment.

CAPO Introductory Training – 7 October 2025

Hosted by Barnardo’s and a parent with lived experience, this in-person training session will take place at Hartcliffe and Withywood Ventures, The Gatehouse Centre, BS13 9JN, from 10:15am to 1:00pm.

This engaging and supportive session will help professionals:

• Reflect on the child’s journey through parental imprisonment—from arrest to release.
• Learn trauma-informed approaches to support children, young people, and families.
• Join a growing network of CAPO champions committed to improving outcomes for affected children.

Reflective Session – 13 November 2025 (Online)

This free online session is open to Bristol’s children’s workforce, including CAPO champions, supporters, and those interested in developing their practice.

🕛 Time: 12:00pm – 2:00pm

🎙️ Facilitator: Polly Wright, freelance consultant and former Barnardo’s Children’s Services Manager

The session will include:

• Updates on new policy, research, and guidance.
• Focused discussion on supporting younger children.
• A 30-minute segment led by PACT, introducing their support for families visiting prison and their new schools handbook.
• A Q&A session to share insights and experiences.

Polly Wright brings a wealth of expertise in children, families, and criminal justice, having led national initiatives and contributed to key publications including Nobody’s Listening (PACT, 2023) and Keeping People Safe from Suicide.
