All parents and carers argue sometimes, but when conflict escalates, it can harm children. Stress from money, trust, parenting, trauma, or separation often causes tension, making it harder to stay calm. Research shows one in ten children experience harmful parental conflict, with even higher rates in households without work. Healthy relationships are key to strong families and communities. Parents can visit the ‘Relationships’ tab on the Bristol Family Hubs website to help co-parent and manage conflict in a positive way (non-abusive conflict).

Joanna Mallinson (BE project) and Emily Ingle (Bristol City Council) have been working with six primary schools in Bristol to co-produce a suite of in-school materials.
